John is the Chief Executive of The New Zealand Merino Company (NZM), an integrated sales, marketing, and innovation company focused on redesigning the wool industry and complementary areas of New Zealand’s primary industry. He has extensive experience in international marketing and brand building with his passion spanning a number of areas within the primary sector. John has lived and worked in the USA, UK, the Middle East and Europe.
John holds an MBA from the University of Canterbury and has completed post-graduate study at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. John has developed an alliance with Stanford and is the founder of Te Hono and the Stanford Te Hono Bootcamp movement, which has brought together a diverse alumni of 220 Chief Executives and leaders from across New Zealand, along with Stanford’s top faculty with the objective of fundamentally improving the competitiveness of New Zealand’s primary sector on a global stage. Te Hono alumni have to date achieved over 350 actions, including multi-business consumer insight projects for luxury markets in conjunction with IDEO and the Standford d.school.
In 2013, John was selected as the winner of the KPMG Leader: Outstanding Contribution to International Business in the New Zealand International Business Awards, while NZM won the AUT Business School: Most Innovative Business Model in International Business award.
John is currently on the board of Landcorp Farming Limited and Alpine Origin Merino Limited.
